Job Title:  Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

Job Purpose: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

To manage the day to day running of the laboratory and associated quality function at Grangemill, Matlock. To ensure the quality of materials produced is of the highest standards achievable, to manage and motive laboratory technicians, to report on relevant KPIs and use these to drive continuous process improvement.

Qualifications: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

Degree level in a scientific field or demonstrated history of managing a laboratory ideally within the construction industry.

Principal Objectives: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

  • To ensure the laboratory functions to a high standard
  • Manage and motivate the laboratory staff
  • To continuously monitor and improve procedures and methods to ensure an ethos of Continuous Improvement is maintained
  • Ensure timely reporting of test results and ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • Undertake complaint investigation on material issues and produce detailed reports. 
  • Represent the company during third party certification and ISO 9001 audits..
  • Write and maintain Risk Assessments
  • Write and Maintain SSOPs
  • Ensure internal audits are carried out
  • Implement any corrective actions found
  • Ensure that information specified on specifications is technically correct and in line with current correct codes of practice. 
  • Forge close relationships with site Engineering an Production staff
  • Provide technical recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training materials
  • Ensure that R&D projects are progressing in a timely manner
  • Assist in the complaints / returns process
  • Implementing processes to ensure all technical enquires are dealt with in a timely and effective manner, with relevant KPis to measure effectiveness
  • Ensure all sources of enquiry are effectively and suitably managed – website/phone/internal and external

Person Specification: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

Excelent management and interpersonal skills

In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001

Good knowledge of the requirements of a Factory Process Control system and CE / UKCA requirements

Understanding of BS EN 13108 specifications

Good practical knowledge of Asphalt and hot melt roofing applications.

Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

Good attention to detail.

Confidence to deal with people at all levels.

Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.

Good report writing skills.

Comprehensive knowledge of BSI and Industry standards.

Excellent organisation skills.

Good knowledge of IT software, specifically Microsoft packages.

Ability to organise working days in a logical manner.

Flexible in terms of travelling and hours. 

Managing Operations: Laboratory Manager - Grangemill

Ensure self and team adhere to Health & Safety whilst on site.  

Ensure risk assessments are carried out.
