Senior Veterinary Surgeon - Castleford

 About the role:

We are looking to recruit a permanent Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join our team based at Castleford. This role would suit an experienced Vet, looking to take the next step in their career.  An ability to work up and follow through cases, work sole charge and be a keen Surgeon, are all essential to this role.  An ability to train others, lead by example, provide mentorship and support, and provide constructive, at-the-time feedback are also required. An ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team and maintain a positive work-based culture are essential for this role.  Ideally enrolled on the VetGDP Programme, or willing to complete the Senior Veterinary Surgeon will support a new graduate Vet to work alongside them for next year's intake.

Joining our friendly team of 14 Vets you will benefit from plenty of clinical support as we encourage collaboration and a team ethos across all departments. We are an appreciative, and supportive team, looking for the right person with shared values.

The role includes a mixture of consulting, case workup and surgery. We actively encourage the development of team members, providing training, easily accessed support and clinical guidance.  The practice is supported by two highly trained RVN's, who offer extended nurse clinics including physiotherapy and nutrition consults. A permanent VCA on reception trained in bereavement support and several student nurses and trainees.

About us:

The practice is well equipped benefitting from digital X-ray, ultrasound, (S6 from IMV), IM3 dental machine, tonopen and Abaxis biochemistry and haematology machines. If a candidate is wanting additional equipment to develop a new service/ skill or standard, we're more than happy to discuss. Endoscopy, multiparameter monitoring, Bair hugger, and ventilator available at our Brindley Way Hospital.  Full overnight support provided at the Brindley Way for critical/complex cases requiring 24/7 nursing.

Overall, we have a superb team of nurses including 16 RVNS, many of whom have additional post grad qualifications.  We also benefit from dedicated receptionist support, many of whom hold BVRA and customer service qualifications. Our Surgical Director is an Advanced Practitioner in Surgery, with a certificate in imaging also.  We benefit from a visiting Advanced Practitioner in Cardiology who also holds a certificate in medicine.  Amongst our team of vets, we also have Cert's in Imaging and Medicine, with several others working towards certificates at present.  We have highly motivated clients, and a claim direct facility is commonly used, supporting access to healthcare for all.

About the team:

Our leadership team consists of our Surgical Director Vet, a Practice Director, Practice Manager, two a Senior Hospital Vet, two Head Nurses, and a Head Receptionist.  We listen, we're proactive, we're kind, and we look to constantly improve for the benefit of our team, our patients, and our clients.

Hours:

Our standard rota benefits from a four-day working week, with 1:4 weekends (based at our main Hospital). Shift times for this role during the week would be 9am-7pm, with an hour for dinner.  The last half hour of the day is appointment free, designated for client call back time, to report labs or follow up on cases etc.  Holidays include 5 weeks standard holiday plus bank holiday entitlement, plus an additional buy and sell scheme. Whilst we do require Bank Holiday cover throughout the year, this is shared equally amongst the team and we fully close the practice on Christmas Day allowing everyone to enjoy the day with their family.

Post graduate certificates in all disciplines are welcome and there is the opportunity to undertake funded certification for those who are interested.

Salary depending on experience starting 50k- 70k plus DOE, additional certificates/experience/OV etc  negotiate higher end salary bracket.
