Process Chemist - Fine Chemicals - Staffordshire - Permanent

Our client is a leading producer of fine chemicals supplying into a variety of industry sectors including: Cosmetics, Pharmaceuticals, Plastics, Paints and Food.
The role of Process Chemist will look to improve process efficiencies and aid in process development through an understanding of process chemistry and issues affecting scale-up. Plan and implement effective laboratory work, co-ordinate, and review production trials.
Proposes modifications and troubleshooting to existing processes. Proposes, designs and introduces new processes in order to improve process efficiencies and support product development, taking into account cost analysis and safety implications.

Responsibilities:

  • To propose modifications to existing processes in order to improve efficiencies,
  • To process troubleshoot and identify root causes from incomplete information,
  • To propose, design and introduce to the plant new processes utilising best practice, new equipment and technology,
  • To propose and justify process change via understanding of relevant cost benefit analysis.
  • To consider and address the safety implications of introducing new processes (COSHH) assessments, HAZOP studies) or implementing changes to existing processes

Knowledge:

To develop technical expertise and to share the expertise throughout the organisation in order to support new and up to standard process/ product designs and implementations.

This includes among others the following processes,

  • To direct and train plant managers, plant operators and associated technical personnel when introducing new procedures, and document these changes with accurate standard operating procedures,
  • To continually develop own professional reputation and recognised technical expertise
