Jackson Hogg is delighted to be partnered with an innovative technology business, who are looking for a Principal Scientist to join their biotechnology team. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Molecular Biologist to lead their research and development efforts in Biotechnology. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for designing and executing research projects, analysing data, and providing scientific expertise and leadership to the research team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virology, a track record of successful research projects, and the ability to drive innovation and scientific excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Development:

  • Lead and oversee research projects in molecular biology, from conceptualisation to execution and completion.
  • Design and develop experimental protocols and methodologies to address research objectives and hypotheses.
  • Develop plans, analyse data, and interpret results to generate actionable insights and scientific discoveries.
  • Technology development road mapping for advancement of molecular biology pipeline.
  • Develop innovative techniques and methodologies to evaluate emerging technologies, techniques, and methodologies for early assessment.
  • Develop experiment plans, timelines, and milestones, and ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and challenges, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project execution.
  • Communicate project updates, findings, and outcomes to stakeholders, including senior management and external partners.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Review experimental reports to assimilate experimental data to inform future experiments, plans, and capabilities.
  • Prepare and present research findings, reports, and scientific publications for internal review, conferences, and external stakeholder presentations and reports.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of research data and documentation.

Laboratory Supervision:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and ethical guidelines relevant to research activities.
  • Participate in regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections as needed, providing scientific expertise and documentation support.
  • Overall responsibility for laboratory safety and operations.

Requirements:

  • PhD in biology or related scientific discipline.
  • Proven track record of scientific research and publications.
  • Extensive experience in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive research initiatives to completion.
  • Extensive experience with virology.
  • Demonstrable experience with sequencing.
  • Experience with environmental metagenomics.
  • Extensive experience with different bioinformatic tools.
  • Long read sequencing experience.
