The company's goal is to develop high energy density, low cost, low environmental impact electrical energy storage devices that will help create a clean and sustainable global energy and transportation system.


Objective of role:

This role would suit a chemical / mechanical engineer who is interested in applying engineering principles to scale processes and create a new energy storage system.

The Senior Development Engineer role will:

· Lead testing work on new energy storage system prototypes, analyse the resulting data and provide feedback into the mechanical engineer.

· Develop an understanding of core principles of our current energy storage technology and create experiments to look for improvements, such as trailing new materials, form factors or concept designs.

· Develop a pilot line manufacturing process for new prototypes and test for repeat ability

· Be part of the scale-up process, utilising new processes or materials from research and testing them in larger cell formats, analysing performance and feeding back into the research team


Key Activities & Responsibilities


· Provide development expertise within a multi-disciplinary development team

· Liaise with, and effectively support, Research scientists engaged in polymer and electrochemistry research

· Contributing to various R&D programs across the company

· Head of Prototype Development

· Director of Research and Development

· Research Group Leader and wider Research Team

· Management team and colleagues

External:

· Suppliers

· Other external influencers as appropriate

Person Specification

· Engineering, Bachelors or Masters degree essential, such as chemical, mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering

· A minimum of 4 years' experience in a relevant R&D environment

· Demonstratable hands-on engineering skillset coupled with a technical capability to understand chemical systems and manufacturing processes

· Great teamwork and communication skills

· Desire to work in a dynamic start-up R&D environment with early-stage technology

· Experience with batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, electrolysers or other energy storage and conversion technologies is advantageous but not essential.

· Experience working with electronic systems, such as sensors, testing equipment or chemical process development
