This role reports directly to the Managing Director. The main purpose of this role is to organise and oversee the daily operations of our company. The Head of Operations will be the one to ensure that our business is safe, well-coordinated, cost efficient and productive by managing its procedures and employees.

Duties include:

  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of the Operations Department to ensure smooth progress.
  • Revise and/or formulate standard operating procedures and promote their implementation.
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations.
  • Create and manage relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate overall performance of the departments by gathering, analysing, and interpreting KPIs.
  • Liaise with the company directors to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals, in line with the 3-year plan.
  • Regularly evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organisational objectives and apply improvements.
  • Develop, improve, and implement operations and production plans to meet company goals.
  • Promote company growth and anticipate and forecast trends and patterns of the company and marketplace.
  • Create operation strategies to minimise stock losses, implementing initiatives to reduce company costs, and increasing employee productivity.
  • Introduce Lean Manufacturing to the relevant areas .
  • Manage and coordinate health and safety for the factory and despatch site.
  • Conduct all duties in compliance with the appropriate health and safety requirements.  
  • Ensure all staff are trained to execute their roles in line with good health and safety practices.
  • Manage and direct the managers/supervisors of different departments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Create and maintain headcount plan to ensure teams are staffed accordingly.
  • Ensure the skills and knowledge of the team is relevant and ever progressing.
  • Conduct people management tasks such as return to work interviews, appraisals, performance management, investigations and disciplinaries (as required) with support from HR.

Essential skills, experience and knowledge requirements:

The successful candidate must have;

  • Extensive experience within production management.
  • In depth operational experience within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Recognised Health and Safety Qualification (IOSH/NEBOSH).
  • Experience within FMCG industry.
  • Vast knowledge of good manufacturing practice (GMP) and good documentation practice (GDP).
  • Experience and/or knowledge of implementing Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent Attention to detail.
  • Good time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to cope with changing priorities at sometimes short notice.
