Portsmouth Hospitals NICU team currently have positions available for an experienced neonatal nurse to join our Band 7 Senior Sister team. Working together to provide comprehensive, individualised care and support to our babies and their families.

As one of the top level 3 neonatal units in the country, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Queen Alexandra Hospital has developed an excellent reputation for the delivery of high-quality nursing and medical care, education, and research. We are proud to be Platinum BLISS accredited, and to have achieved stage one of the Baby Friendly Initiative.

NICU is a busy tertiary neonatal Unit with 14 intensive care cots, 4 high dependency cots and 13 special care. We undertake some of the most complex and pioneering medical care, including Total Body Cooling, HFOV, Nitric Oxide Therapy and Laser ROP Surgery. We work tirelessly to deliver exceptional levels of care, which are realised in the outstanding outcomes we achieve for our babies. We welcome applications from Neonatal qualified in specialty nurses with a significant amount of experience at a senior level within a neonatal setting.

Job Summary:

  1. Lead and co-ordinate the nursing team, taking continuing responsibility on a 24 hours basis for the management and organisation of the clinical area.
  2. Through effective leadership ensure the clinical team delivers a safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led service where compassion is embedded and a positive patient experience is achieved.
  3. Provide strong professional clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and act as a professional role model.
  4. A highly skilled clinical expert with specialized knowledge in caring for patients and their carers’
