Job Description

37.5 Hours per week.  The shift pattern is a two week rotation:

Week 1: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday- 7am-5pm.

Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday- 7am-5pm.

Purpose of the post: 

Working within a busy, fast paced laboratory, performing microbiological testing on a high volume of water samples, using filtration and plating techniques.  To assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.  To share the vision of providing the best possible quality to ensure each sample is processed with precision and accuracy.

Main Duties: 

  • Preparation and analysis of water samples through filtration and plating techniques, utilising good laboratory practice and aseptic technique.
  • Ensure samples received are handled in accordance with documented procedures, including attention to temperature control, storage and maintenance of sample integrity.
  • Employ good time management and prioritise samples to ensure they are testing within stability.
  • Undertake good housekeeping, maintaining a tidy work environment and stock management.
  • Perform Calibrations and daily checks of equipment
  • Maintenance of accurate and systematic records as detailed in the quality procedures.
  • Attention to detail and maintaining quality records, and other quality related tasks as required.
  • Undergo training and follow laboratory procedures.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality System in order to comply with the policies, procedures and associated documents.
  • Work well with others and display good teamwork and work to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
  • Report any anomalies or concerns to direct report.
  • Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
